Tanzania Values Friendship with China: OfficialTanzania greatly values its relationship with China and the relations between the two have indeed overcome the tests of time, a senior government official said Saturday in Dar Es Salaam.Speaking at the People's Republic of China National Day reception held at the Chinese embassy here, Bakari Mbonde, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, said China has proved to be Tanzania's friend in need and therefore a friend indeed. He praised China for using whatever resources it has in enhancing the cause of the developing countries. "We support the entry by China into the World Trade Organization because we know China's membership will strengthen the position of the developing countries in that organization," said the minister. He also reiterated Tanzania's stand over the Taiwan issue. "Tanzania supports the one China policy. The relevance and significance of this policy have been proved by the manner in which Hong Kong and Macao rejoined the motherland and continue to prosper," Mbonde added. The two countries maintain close relationship not only at the bilateral level but also at the multilateral level, he noted, adding that the two governments have the same outlook on almost all international issues of significance. Since China and Tanzania established diplomatic relations in 1964, their relations have witnessed a healthy and steady development. At the 26th General Assembly of the United Nations in 1971, Tanzania was among the sponsor countries of the resolution of supporting the restoration of China's lawful seat in U.N. At present, the two countries are conducting extensive co-operation in the spheres of politics, economy, military and culture. Tanzania is China's largest aid-recipient country in Africa. Since 1964, China has rendered various kinds of aid to Tanzania. The mutually beneficial co-operation between the two sides, which began in the 1960s, have been developing rapidly in recent years. |
