US Astronaut to Visit Hong Kong Next MonthGeorge D. Nelson, a NASA astronaut who used to fly as a mission specialist aboard three space shuttle flights, will visit the Hong Kong Science Museum on October 21, 2000.During his visit, Nelson will meet with teachers, educators and the public to promote science and technology education and share his experience of staying in the space. Jointly organized by the Hong Kong Science Museum of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Education Department, three events were scheduled for Nelson on October 21, including a seminar on perspectives on science and technology education for the 21st century. Nelson will share his experience of staying in the space in a public lecture entitled "Life in Space". Nelson is the director of "Project 2061" and a member of the senior staff of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He was also an associate vice provost for research and associate professor of astronomy and education at the University of Washington. From 1978 to 1989, he served as a NASA astronaut and flew as a mission specialist aboard three space shuttle flights, including the first on-orbit satellite repair in 1984. |
