Fine Art Exhibition Shows in Nanjing

A fine art exhibition, with lots of well-known pieces created by ancient calligraphers and painters, opened Saturday in Nanjing, as part of the ongoing Sixth China Art Festival.

Nanjing Museum, located at the southern foot of the ravishing Purple Mountain, showed more than 100 outstanding works, the eldest of which date back to 800 years ago.

The exhibits include the ones drawn by Huang Gongwang, Ni Zan, Tang Yin, Shen Zhou, Zhu Yunming, Shi Tao, Zheng Banqiao, Xu Beihong and Fu Baoshi.

As one of the nation's largest relics reserves, the museum has a whole collection of over 400,000 works from the Neolithic Age to the contemporary age.

Xu Yiyi, chief of the museum's research institute, said that visitors have an opportunity to see the elite of the ancient artistic works.

Meanwhile, the exhibition will show treasured documents, including a few rare books and some only existing as copies.
