Business People in Macao Celebrate PRC Anniversary

The Macao Chamber of Commerce (MCC), the most influential business body in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China, hosted a party Saturday afternoon to mark the 51st founding anniversary of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

MCC Chairman Ma Man Kei said at the party that it is of special significance that the National Day is the first one since Macao's return to the motherland.

He noted that over the past half century, the outlook of China has shown tremendous changes under the leadership of the Communist Party of China and with the hard work of people of various ethnic groups across the country.

In particular, the reform and opening-up over the past two decades have brought about all-round prosperity and the standard of living of the people has been raised remarkably, he said.

Along with the strong momentum of development of the motherland, the Macao SAR was founded nine months ago. "We are pleased to see that the SAR has a good beginning and the SAR government administers the region in accordance with the Macao Basic Law," Ma said.

Present at the party were also Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao SAR, and Wang Qiren, director of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in the Macao SAR.
