Official: CATV Network not Open to Foreign Capital

"China's Cable television (CATV) network is a special trade not opened to foreign capital as specified by the State," said a ranking official with the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television on September 28.

Recently, it's rumored that the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television is drafting a new plan to open the CAVT network of China, including the key wired networks at the national and provincial levels to foreign capital. To refute the rumor, the official affirmed that the CATV network is listed by the State as an area where foreign investment is prohibited, leaders of the Administration have also repeatedly stressed that the Administration won't open the CATV network to foreign capital in violation to relevant State regulations. The vast majority of countries in the world also regard the CATV network as a special trade placed under extremely strict control.
