China Makes Breakthrough in Transgenosis Field

Chinese scientists have cultivated seven rabbits with an animal mammary bio-reactor,ranking China among the world's most advanced countries in this field.

Among the 140 rabbits cultivated by Shenzhen Lvpeng Agrotechnical Ltd. Company and China Agricultural University, seven contained the human gene auxin, experts said.

The company applied the world's most advanced technology of embryo freezing and external fertilization in the cultivation, experts said. Starting the animal mammary bio-reactor research in 1997, the Lvpeng Company has established China's largest transgenosis breeding center in Shenzhen, China's first special economic zone in south China's Guangdong Province.

Honored as "the pearl on the crown" in biology, the technology of the animal mammary bio-reactor integrates some human genes with animal's embryo, which is then transplanted into its matrix, thus producing transgenosis animals.

By this means, experts said, people can obtain some valuable protein and rare medicine from the milk of the transgenosis animals. Due to the low cost and high quality of products, the technology is believed to have a great commercial value.
