China Witnessed A Steady Development In Auto Industry

During the "Ninth Five-Year Plan" period, the auto industry, one of China's pillar industries has witnessed a steady growth. The repetition in the construction of auto-manufacturing industry has got contained and with its restructuring strengthened the economic benefit in mass-production has begun to show up.

Statistics show that in 1999, the volume of auto sales increased to 1.83 million cars, a yearly average increase of 6.33% from 1.46 million in 1995. By the end of 1998, the private cars accreted to 4.2365 million from 2.4996 million in1995, a rise of 23.615%.

The varieties of products have been further improved with the proportion of cargo-trucks dropped in a big way. Passenger buses and cars are increasing dramatically and a fundamental change has taken place in the imbalance of less heavy and light trucks. Varieties of coaches and cars are becoming numerous.

Great changes have also taken place in the auto consumption market. Along with the development of China's economy and the improvement in the people's living standard, the auto market is evolving from a situation in which cars were mainly bought with public funds to the diversified forms of consumption. Private cars saw a big increase, which has created a broad market for the development of vehicle industry and especially, the sedan-cars in China.

With the launching of the relevant policies on the tail-gas emission, the competition between auto-manufacturers has shifted from that of price-cutting to the raising of technological level, a competition of auto's function and quality. Auto manufactures have sped up the development and production of new brands, thus providing more choices for consumers. In the meanwhile, measures are taken by major auto manufactures for further improving the quality of their products according to the market needs.

Recent years have seen great changes taking place in the way of auto marketing and service system in China. To maintain consumers' benefit, auto-manufacturers have set up their respective selling and service networks so as to standardize and normalize the selling and follow-up services.
