HK Gov't to Pursue Housing Reforms: Tung

Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa said Friday that the Hong Kong government will pursue reforms of public housing policy and management.

Tung said he has confidence that the new chairman of the Housing Authority, Cheng Hon-kwan, will continue to pursue reforms of public housing policy and management vigorously.

"I have every confidence that under his leadership, the Housing Authority will move from strength to strength," Tung said.

Tung said Cheng will bring with him his long experience of public service and professional expertise in the construction industry to lead the Housing Authority as it continues to address important challenges ahead.

Cheng's rich experience in public service in the construction, transport, development and education spheres makes him a well qualified candidate to be the new chairman of the Housing Authority, Tung said.

Tung also expressed his appreciation of Rosanna Wong's service as Chairman of the Housing Authority for the past seven years.

During her tenure, Wong has made a most significant contribution in steering through policy reforms, in driving the implementation of the public housing program and in initiating management reforms within the Housing Department, he added.
