Iranian President Holds Talk with Iraqi Vice President

Iranian President Mohammad Khatami and Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan met Friday after attending the second OPEC summit, promising to strengthen bilateral ties.

Khatami and Ramadan had "frank" talks on the whole range of unresolved issues, they said after the meeting.

"We discussed all bilateral issues. We clarified all ambiguous points, and because we clarified them we have faith in a good future for everybody," said a spokesman for Khatami.

Ramadan also highlighted the results of the hour-long talks in Caracas, where the two men attended a summit of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Wednesday and Thursday.

Tehran and Baghdad upgraded their diplomatic relations, which were never broken off during the eight-year war from 1980-1988, to the level of charge d'affaires in 1990, it was reported.
