Arafat Condemns Shooting Israeli Soldier in West Bank

Palestinian National Authority (PNA) leader, Yasser Arafat condemned the killing of an Israeli border guard by a Palestinian policeman during a shootout in the West Bank town of Qalkilia early Friday morning.

Arafat advisor, Nabil Aburedinah said at a news briefing Friday that "Arafat had a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak wherein he expressed condemnation and rejection of the accident in Qalkilia this morning."

Meanwhile, Ahmed Querei, Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) denounced the bloody attack emphasizing that the attacker would stand on trial soon.

Ahmed al-Tayib Palestinian presidential Secretary General said the special military investigation committee on fire shooting immediately launched investigation into the circumstances of the condemned incident.

A source with the PNA said Palestinian security organ nabbed Nail Mohamad Soliman, 27, who opened fire at the two Israeli mates in the joint patrol at the Palestinian-controlled town Friday morning. The two were hurried to an Israeli hospital, but one of them died later.
