Private Car Ownership Soars in Guangzhou

The number of private cars in Guangzhou, capital city of southeast China's Guangdong Province, is soaring, according to the latest official statistics.

By the end of June this year, the number of private cars in Guangzhou totaled 116,587, 28.6 percent more than at the end of the last year, according to statistics.

Of all the private cars in Guangzhou in June there were 25,960 new cars bought during the past six months.

By the end of June private vehicles including cars, vans and passenger cars amounted to 190,000, the figure said.

A local source said that in Guangzhou, such well-known cars as Honda and Passat had fallen short of supply under great demand during the first half of this year.
