Yugoslav Presidential Run-off on October 8: CommissionYugoslavia's Federal Electoral Commission on Thursday officially announced that October 8 would be the date for the presidential election run-off between President Slobodan Milosevic and opposition candidate Vojislav Kostunica.The Yugoslav Tanjug news agency quoted the commission as saying none of the candidates won an outright victory in Sunday's first round as none of them secured more than 50 percent of the vote. Under Yugoslavia's electoral law, a 50-percent threshold is not required in the second round. Preliminary results showed that Kostunica was ahead of Milosevic in the first round. |
