Qingdao's Former Police Chief Commits Suicide over Suspected Wrongdoing

Wan Guozhong, former head of the Police Bureau in coastal city of Qingdao, killed himself on September 19 over suspected crime after resigning less than two months due to a subordinate's secret leaking during anti-porn and gambling campaign.

Wan resigned July 29 from the post of police chief at Qingdao, a deputy-ministerial city in East China's Shandong, for "negligence of duty, barbouring porn and gambling." He also suspended his post as a deputy-director of the Shandong Provincial Public Security Bureau.

Earlier on June 29, deputy director of Sifang District Police Bureau Liu Wei leaked the secret by mobile phone to the "Dafuhao Night Club" and made the outlaws get prepared, leading the action to failure. Liu was said to frequent Dafuhao, which is in his beat domain. Liu was later removed from his post, expelled from the Communist Party of China and kicked out the police team.

After Wan resigned from his post, he was summoned by the local competent authorities to tell his wrong deeds within a time limit. Facts showed that Wan's wrongdoing was far from connection with "negligence of duty, barbouring porn and gambling." The "Dafuhao Night Club" was found to be a venture of which his would-be son-in-law was a partner. (Source: chinadaily.com.cn)

It was also learnt that many of Wan's relatives have been detained for questioning over related wrongdoings.

Wan killed himself during the period while he was being questioned by the authorities.
