Officials' Family Members Banned From Profiting From PowersChina's government departments have issued their respective rules barring officials' spouses and children from making illegal profits by using the political powers and influence of the officials. The spouses and children are prohibited from engaging in businesses in the fields where the leaders have power. For instance, family members of police officers are not allowed to do business in the recreational sectors or other businesses under the supervision of public security departments. The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China recently issued a circular urging discipline and supervisory departments at all levels to launch a nationwide check on the issue. By the end of October, the deadline for the campaign, officials whose spouse or children have been engaged in any such wrongdoing must resign from their position or have their family members withdraw from commercial activities, the circular says. After the campaign, it says, any officials whose spouse or children are found involved in prohibited businesses will be punished according to disciplines.
