China's Largest Tourism Fair to Be Held in Shanghai

The China International Tourism Fair 2000, the largest of its kind in the country, is to be staged on October 18-21 in Shanghai.

To date, all the 1,200 exhibition stands prepared for the fair have been fully booked, an increase of 21 percent from the previous one, according to the information office of the municipal government Thursday.

Overseas participants have reserved 350 of the stands, up 87 percent from the last fair, said the head of the office.

The fair is jointly sponsored by the State Tourism Administration, the Shanghai Municipal Government and the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China.

Taking part in the fair are 40 countries and regions around the world, including Australia, France, Germany, Japan, the U.S. and Switzerland. And this is the first time that Bahrain, Cambodia, Egypt, Indonesia, Maldives and Viet Nam will attend the biennial event.

In addition, over 1,200 tourism wholesalers and agents from more than 50 countries and regions will conduct talks and trading with representatives from domestic and overseas tourism departments and companies.
