Motorola Donates to China's "Project Hope"

The electronics giant Motorola Wednesday donated three million yuan (about 370,000 US dollars) to "Project Hope", a nationwide project to assist school drop-outs in China.

Sources with the local "Project Hope" office said that this is the sixth time the company has donated funds to help poor Chinese students.

So far Motorola has contributed 2.17 million US dollars to 13 provinces and autonomous regions in China, helping set up 28 primary schools and helping more than 8,000 drop-outs return to school, the source said.

Bobbie Gutman, a senior manager with Motorola, said today at a donation ceremony that Motorola will continue to make contributions to China's education.

Motorola came to China in 1987 and has become one of the largest and the most successful foreign-invested companies in China.
