IBM Helps with E-business Applications in Macao

The IMB China/Hong Kong Ltd. signed a memorandum of understanding Wednesday with an official body of Macao to introduce initiatives promoting knowledge exchange and technology transfer in e-business applications in Macao.

With the assistance of IBM, the World Trade Center (WTC) Macao aims to power up Macao as the e-business trade hub between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and drive the local business community to gain competitive advantage and raise productivity and efficiency through e-business deployment.

With the collaboration, WTC Macao will adopt a fresh approach in unfolding its e-business initiatives for Macao's business community and other WTC members. The new initiatives will help elevate Macao's status in e-business application among its global trading partners.

For the first 12 months, WTC Macao and IBM will jointly organize a series of conferences and marketing programs offering solid and proven e-business technology and knowledge.

The first e-business seminar under the agreement will be held on November 3, 2000, introducing the concepts of e-business, e-marketplace and e-procurement and how small and medium businesses keep competitive.

WTC Macao will make use of its local and international networks, facilities and capabilities in organizing the programs, in which IBM will contribute its expertise in e-business technology and knowledge.
