National Art Gala to Lure Half Million Visitors

The Sixth China Art Festival, schedule to open Thursday in Nanjing, the provincial capital of Jiangsu, is expected to be attended by 500,000 visitors and over 30,000 artists, guests and reporters.

Gu Hao, chairman of the organizing committee of the festival, made the remark at today's news briefing. Everything has been prepared for tomorrow's opening of the gala, he said.

Over 730 local and overseas reporters from over 200 media organizations will cover the event, according to the official.

To date, the committee has received more than 20 million yuan in donations from different circles and earned over 40 million yuan from selling lottery tickets.

The committee is looking for new ways to raise money for the organization of the festival, he noted.

Nanjing, along with the four sub-venues of Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou and Yangzhou, have made efforts to improve local infrastructure, traffic conditions and social order.

According to the official, 31 performing facilities with over 40,000 seats have been either built or rebuilt in the five cities.

China Central Television and Jiangsu Television will telecast live many of the 105 programs of the festival, the official said.

A number of exhibitions and trade activities will also be held in the upcoming days, he said.
