HK Moves to Strengthen Trade Ties with Czech

Hong Kong and the Czech Republic have taken positive steps to improving bilateral trade and economic relations, according to a news release by the Information Service Department.

At talks in Prague Wednesday between the Financial Secretary Donald Tsang and the Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade Vaclav Petricek, both agreed on the need to enhance the trade and investment flows between the two places.

"There are significant similarities between Hong Kong and the Czech Republic which should be exploited. We are both gateways to our respective regions and we can leverage this strategic position for our mutual benefit," said Tsang.

The Financial Secretary reemphasized the role visa-free access played in stimulating business and tourism links and he hoped the Czech government could help in this regard.

Petricek agreed on the need to do more to improve trade with Hong Kong and the East Asia region.
