Most S. Koreans Say Inter-Korean Ties Progress Fast

Nearly 60 percent of South Koreans said inter-Korean relations have progressed fast, according to an opinion poll by the Korea Research Center recently.

Some 59.8 percent of the 1,000 pollees responded that the present progress of inter-Korean relations is fast or too fast, showing that it may be causing confusion for some people.

And 32.1 percent of them replied that the progress is appropriate while the remaining 6.8 percent said it should be faster.

On the South Korean government's food assistance to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), 55.2 percent of the informants expressed support while 42.6 percent voiced disapproval.

The survey was conducted on September 22-23 among 1,000 adults across the country at the request of the Unification Ministry, with the margin of error at plus or minus 3.1 percent.

Since the inter-Korean summit between South Korean President Kim Dae-jung and DPRK leader Kim Jong Il in Pyongyang on June 13-15 this year, the two sides have held meetings in economic and military fields and arranged reunions for separated family members, and the project of linking inter-Korean railway and road systems is under construction.
