China to Build First Railway of Magnetic Levitation Rail
China will build its first demonstration railway of magnetic levitation rail in Shanghai Pudong New Area. Feasibility studies have been under way.
It's reported that this 35-km-long railway from the Pudong International Airport to Longyang Subway Station will be built with the technology imported from Germany and become a high-speed passage connecting the Pudong International Airport with the urban district of Shanghai.
The magnetic levitation rail with the speed of over 500 KPH, is the fastest ground means of passenger transportation in the world today. It features fast speed, strong capability of slope-scaling and low energy consumption which is only one-third of that of planes and 70 percent of cars for each seat. According to the present designed standard, nine carriages can seat 959 passengers in each train and 12 trains can be dispatched each hour, so the two-way transport volume of each hour is 23,000 persons, calculated on the basis of running 18 hours a day, the largest annual transport volume can reach 150 million persons.
