Hong Kong to Attract More Mainland Tourists

Hong Kong wants to attract more visitors from the Chinese mainland, according to tourism officials.

"We will try to provide the best tours and entertainment for visitors," said Jin Minhao, director of the Beijing branch of the Hong Kong Tourist Association.

He was speaking at the opening of a seven-day Hong Kong tour exhibition in Xin Dong An Plaza, one of the biggest shopping centres in downtown Beijing's Wangfujing.

Under the slogan "Welcome to Hong Kong, a city of life," the exhibition is expected to attract tens of thousands of people.

Hong Kong is paying more attention to tourism co-operation with the Chinese mainland which is rich in culture and natural beauty, said Grace Lee, acting executive director of the association.

About 30 per cent of tourists to Hong Kong came from the mainland. Apart from the exhibition, the plaza has also opened a 2,400-square-metre permanent indoor street which replicates Hong Kong's famous shops, bars and other spots.

"Now people who cannot go to Hong Kong can get the feel of it without leaving Beijing,," said Ke Nanyuan, vice-manager of the plaza.
