Tough Contest Expected in Men's Springboard Diving Final

Tough contest is expected in the final of the men's 3m springboard diving as the top three finishers in the morning's semifinal have a margin of less than 10 points.

Defending champion Xiong Ni of China totalled 687.78 points from preliminary and semifinal, 3.03 points ahead of Russian Dmitri Saoutine. Mexican Fernando Platas was third at 678.96 points.

But Xiong Ni will start the final with 9.84 points behind Saoutine as according to the diving rules, divers bring only the semifinal results into the final.

Xiong Ni collected only 230.40 points from the five-dive semifinal, placed fourth behind Saoutine (240.24), Xiao Hailiang of China (235.92) and Platas (234.36).
