US IT Giants Support IT Development in Xinjiang

US giants in the information technology sector formed an alliance in Urumqi Monday to support the development of information technology in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

Under the framework agreement signed Monday, both sides will cooperate in a wide-ranging area to support the development of the IT industry and related areas.

The US companies include Intel, IBM, Cisco, Oracle, Compaq and Chinaepot. These firms will support Xinjiang's major information projects such as Digital Xinjiang and E-business Platform projects.

The alliance is expected to make full use of technology, products, professional personnel and capital to promote the development of the information industry, and provide advisory and training services for the region.

Zhang Zhou, vice chairman of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional government, said rapid development in the information industry in Xinjiang will provide a historical opportunity for Xinjiang to develop its information technology.
