Mubarak Begins Talks with Israeli Acting FM

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak began a meeting Monday with visiting Israeli acting Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben-Ami on the latest developments in the peace talks between the Palestinians and Israel.

Mubarak and Ben-Ami were also expected to exchange views on the contacts and ideas of all parties concerned to the Middle East peace process, Egypt's Middle East News Agency has said.

Ben-Ami is scheduled to hold lengthy talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa after the meeting with Mubarak.

Moussa said on Sunday that Egypt hoped to hear positive response from Israel to the Palestinian demands in their peace talks.

Ben-Ami may offer something new pertaining to the peace process, Mubarak political advisor Osama al-Baz said ahead of Ben Ami's arrival.

But the visit should not be interpreted as an Israeli concession or change of its stand, al-Baz stressed.

Ben-Ami, who arrived here earlier in the day, will travel on to Amman for talks with Jordanian King Abdullah Bin Hussein.
