HK Restaurants' Profits Rose
Hong Kong's restaurants brought in more money in the second quarter this year, according to the figures released Monday by the Census and Statistics Department.
The figures showed that the value of total receipts for the restaurants in Hong Kong was 14 billion Hong Kong dollars (1.79 billion U.S. dollars) in the second quarter, representing an increase of 2.0 percent compared to the same period in 1999, while the value of total purchases of restaurants increased by 7.0 percent to 5 billion Hong Kong dollars (641 million U.S. dollars).
After discounting the effect of price changes, total restaurant receipts increased by 3.0 percent in volume in the second quarter of 2000 over a year earlier.
The figures also showed that comparing the first half of 2000 with the same period last year, total restaurant receipts increased by 5.0 percent in volume, or 3.0 percent in value.
