Israeli, Palestinian Leaders to Meet Monday Night

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat are to meet Monday night in a bid to break the current impasse in the peace talks, Israel Radio Monday quoted a Palestinian source close to the talks as saying.

The meeting between the two leaders will be their first since the U.S.-brokered Camp David summit in July failed to yield a peace deal. But the summit meeting has been considered a turning point in the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.

The source said the meeting will take place at a location that will not be disclosed to the media for security reasons.

Israeli acting Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben-Ami earlier said the meeting would be intended to build trust between the two leaders.

The peace talks are foundered over disputes on the fate of Jerusalem and the Palestinian refugees.

The radio also quoted the source as saying that Israeli and Palestinian delegations are setting out for Washington to continue negotiations on Monday.

Palestinian Information Minister Yasser Abed Rabbo told Voice of Palestine radio that the teams will hold talks with the U.S. officials and examine whether there are changes in each other's positions since the Camp David summit.

The Palestinian delegation is said to include Saeb Erekat and Mohammed Dahlan while Attorney Gilad Sher is expected to represent Israel.
