China to Put in Huge Funds in Sandstorm Control
In the coming 10 years, China will invest a huge amount of money in controlling land desertification in the north, with stress placed on tackling the source of sandstorm around Beijing.
An official with the National Forestry Bureau recently disclosed that among the nine major State projects for desert control, "The area around Beijing will be a focus of sandstorm control," but this area, he added, constitutes only a very small part of the whole project. Only when desertification in west China is brought under control, can the menace of sandstorm to Beijing be relieved fundamentally.
