China's Telephone Users Top 200 Million

The number of telephone users in China has topped 200 million, 135 million of which involve fixed telephones and 65 million mobile phones, Minister of Information Industry Wu Jichuan announced Monday.

China had 2.03 million telephone users in 1979 and 100 million in 1998. And the number doubled in two years, Wu told a press conference.
