South Korea, DPRK Reach Agreement on Separated Families

Delegations from South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) reached a six-point agreement at their second Red Cross talks held at the DPRK's Kumgang Mountain Saturday night, the South Korean news media reported.

Under the agreement, the two sides will exchange 100 separated family members two times which are scheduled on November 2-4 and December 5-7 respectively, according to the South Korean Red Cross.

The two sides also agreed to exchange lists of 100 applicants who want to confirm the survival and whereabouts of their separated family members before November.

Upon exchanging the lists, they will trace whereabouts of separated families and notify results to each other as early as possible.

The exchange of letters will be allowed to 300 separated family members in November, whose addresses have already been confirmed.

Details of letter exchange will be decided at the third Red Cross talks slated for December 13-15 at the mountain and the issue of establishing a family permanent family reunion center will also be discussed then.
