Gong Beats Martin for Gold

Gong Beats Martin for Gold
Top seed Gong Zhichao defeated world champion Camilla MARTIN from Denmark 13-10, 11-3 on Friday to win the Women's Singles Badminton title.

MARTIN had made Olympic badminton history by becoming the first non-Asian to reach the medal round of the women's singles, but it was not her day.

She made too many mistakes while Gong was too quick and consistent, wrapping up the match in 31 minutes.

It was a disappointing day for Denmark. Earlier compatriot PETER GADE (DEN) lost his men's singles semi-final to Ji Xinpeng (CHN).

China also picked up the bronze medal in the women's singles, with YE Zhaoying beating compatriot DAI Yun in three games.
