Shenzhen to Invite US$ 20 Billion in Coming Five YearsYu Youjun, mayor of Shenzhen, disclosed at a speech conference that Shenzhen will unceasingly improve its investment environment and plans to invite another US$ 20 billion in the coming five years to bring the figure up to the sum total of foreign funds actually used by the city in the past 20 years. The speech conference, named "Speech Conference on Foreign Enterprise Development Achievements Marking the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone", was sponsored by Shenzhen Foreign Businesses Association and was held on the afternoon of September 20. Yu Youjun said at the conference that Shenzhen will continue to deepen the government structural reform early next year, further streamline administrative structure and improve work efficiency, so as to create a better investment environment. Presently, Shenzhen boasts more than 12,000 foreign firms, accounting for half of the city's economic aggregate and holding an important position. Some famous entrepreneurs attended the speech conference on invitation, among them are those which are the first to come to invest in Shenzhen, the first to be recognized as hi-tech enterprises by the city government, and the first to register an export volume exceeding US$ 1 billion. Reviewing the course of their pioneering work in Shenzhen, these entrepreneurs hoped that the Shenzhen government would further help them solve their problems arising in the process of development. Quite a few of them hoped that the government departments could further improve their work efficiency as well as Shenzhen's investment environment. Yu accepted their "opinion" with pleasure. He indicated that in spite of the great progress made in the macro and micro environment for investment after 20 years' development, compared with the developed countries, however, Shenzhen still has a long way to go. Yu hoped that in the next five years when Shenzhen "basically realizes modernization", foreign enterprises in Shenzhen can seize the opportunities for still greater development. He also welcomed them to "continue increasing their investment with more enthusiasm".
