China to Control Pollution on Bohai Sea
China has drawn up a great marine environmental protection plan to control pollution in the Bohai Sea area and to restore the favorable ecological environment there.
Wang Jirong, Vice-minister of the State Environmental Protection Administration, disclosed recently that the Chinese Government wouldl put in over 60 billion yuan in the coming 15 years to restore and improve the Bohai Sea ecological system.
The Bohai blue sea action program will reportedly be put into practice in three stages, the short-term action program covers the 2000-2005 period, the mid-term the 2006-2010 period and the long-term the 2011-2015 period.
Wang said that the program stresses control on land pollution sources and highlights effective management over seacoasts on the basis of restoring and improving the environment.
