Preparation Well Underway for 2000 China International Friendship Cities Conference

Preparation for the upcoming 2000 China International Friendship Cities Conference is close to completion, said Chen Haosu, vice president of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) Thursday.

According to statistics, 540 foreign delegates representing 121cities, 18 organizations and 47 countries, and over 600 representatives from 31 Chinese provinces and autonomous regions and 127 cities will attend the conference, which opens on September 26-28.

The three-day conference is sponsored by the CPAFFC. China has carried out international friendship-city activities for 27 years. The main purpose of this year's conference is to present the international community with results of cooperation and exchanges between the friendship cities over the past 27 years and to further promote the building of ties between friendship cities.

During the conference, participants will also attend the 2000 China International Friendship Cities Exchange Exhibition and Trade Fair, which is co-sponsored by the CPAFFC and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).

They will exchange knowledge on the friendship cities and study new ways for the construction and development of the cities, so as to promote the prosperity of their respective region.

More than 160 mayors will sign a declaration on friendly cooperation and over 20 pairs of cities will sign a document forging the friendship cities.
