Foreign Trade in Tianjin up in First Eight Months

Foreign trade volume in north China port city of Tianjin increased by some 20 percent in the first eight months of this year compared with the same 1999 period.

Imports increased by 19 percent to 8.52 billion US dollars while exports surged 20.5 percent to 11.3 billion U.S. dollars.

Led by growing world demand and an active monetary and tax policies, the city's general trade export totaled 6.8 billion US dollars, up 18.6 percent compared with the same period last year.

The export of products manufactured with supplied materials rose 26.2 percent to 3.2 billion US dollars.

The import and export value of State-owned enterprises came to 9.7 billion US dollars, representing a 10.7 percent rise.
