China Takes First Badminton Gold in Sydney Olympics


China Wins Badminton Mixed Doubles Gold
Zhang Jun and Gao Ling of China rallied from the first game shocking loss to win the mixed doubles titles in Olympic badminton touranment on Thursday.

Zhang and Gao downed Indonesia's Tri Kusharyanto and Minarti Timur 1-15, 15-13, 15-11.

After losing the first game, the Chinese pair was lagging behind 12-13 before turning around and levelling the match for a decisive third game.

The Chinese once led 11-4 in the third game and only managed for a 15-11 victory after their Indonesians fought to the most.

Simon Archer and Joanne Goode took a bronze medal, awarding Britain its first Olympic medal in the sport by beating the Danish duo of Michael Sogaard and Rikke Olsen 15-4, 12-15,17-14.
