Danish Queen Meets Chinese State Councilor

Danish Queen Margrethe II told Chinese State Councilor Wu Yi Wednesday that she is delighted to see increasing mutual visits, growing trade and good cooperation between the two countries in recent years.

Margrethe II extended warm welcome to the Chinese guest and recalled her visit to China in 1979 and the visits by many other royal family members, saying Denmark follows China's development very closely.

Wu Yi agreed that relations between the two countries are on good track. She invited the Queen to visit China, noting that great changes have taken place since her last visit.

Danish Prime Minister Poul Nyrup Rasmussen who held talks with Wu Yi on the same day said that during his fruitful visit to China last May he witnessed the great economic achievements in China with his own eyes.

His government will encourage and help entrepreneurs in Denmark to actively engage themselves in the development of west China, the prime minister said.

Wu Yi said Chinese-Danish trade reached record high last year and the gaining momentum seems to keep going this year.

The two economies are complementary and China is willing to push bilateral relations up to a higher level with more cooperation in many fields such as shipbuilding, shipping, agriculture, stock raising and education, she added.

On Taiwan and Tibet issues, Rasmussen reiterated the Danish government will stick to One-China policy.

Wu Yi also briefed the Danish government of what the Chinese government has achieved in improving and protecting human rights in China.

As far as the human rights issue is concerned, the Chinese government is willing to communicate with the Danish government on the basis of equality and mutual respect, Wu said.

Wu Yi arrived here from Iceland Tuesday and will attend the China Day activities on September 23 at the Hannover Expo in Germany.
