China Holds 1st Int'l Mid-Sized, Small Businesses Expo

The first China International Exposition for Mid-Sized and Small Businesses opened Wednesday in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province in east China.

The five-day exposition is co-sponsored by the State Economic and Trade Commission, the China Association for the Promotion of International Trade and the Provincial Government of Jiangsu.

Entrepreneurs, investors and governmental and non-governmental organizations from 17 countries and regions, including Germany, Malaysia and the United States, occupied more than 800 exposition booths, or one-third of the total.

Delegations from 20 countries and regions and diplomatic envoys from a dozen foreign consulates attended today's opening ceremony.

Prior to this, Changzhou, a booming city with a population of 800,000, hosted four sessions of such expositions on a smaller scale. It is the first time that China designated it as a state-level exposition.

Mid-sized and small firms account for 99 percent of the total number of registered companies in China. They contribute 60 percent of the country's industrial output value, provide jobs to 75 percent of the workers in China and produce 60 percent of the export products.
