Importance of Internet Management Stressed at China Science Conference

The importance of Internet management reform was emphasized by a senior China Internet regulatory official at the annual conference of China Association of Science and Technology, currently underway in this capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

In a report delivered to the national conference today, Hu Qiheng, director of China Internet Information Center, said China's dramatic growth of Internet use in recent years has been propped

up by the strong development of telecommunications and IT industries. The economic growth has continuously spurred the demand for information and data.

However, the Internet applications in China are still at an initial stage with more "bulletins" than useful content, said Hu, who is also an academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

She attributed many of the problems to the disintegrated management of Internet content providers.

The reform of Internet management and people's awareness will be more important to the continuous development of the Internet in China than the advance of equipment and the design of software programs, the expert said.
