Fireworks Explosion Kills One, Injures Seven in SW China

One person was killed instantly and seven others injured in a fireworks explosion which occurred on Tuesday morning at Xincao Village, Xinjin County in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The explosion occurred at 10:30 am in a fireworks workshop illegally run by a villager.

The wife, son and relatives of the killed proprietor of the workshop were among the seven injured, according to sources.

Government officials of Chengdu City, capital of Sichuan Province, and Xinjin County, immediately rushed to the scene to direct the rescue work.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
