WTO Head Welcomes US Senate's Approval of PNTR for China
Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Mike Moore on Wednesday welcomed United States Senate's approval of permanent normal trade relations (PNTR) with China.
"I welcome the Senate's approval of PNTR for China as I welcome all actions taken by WTO member governments which facilitate the rapid accession of China into the WTO," Moore said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the 12th Working Party on China's WTO Accession, which began its work last Wednesday in Geneva, will go on till the end of the month. The Chinese delegation, led by vice minister for foreign trade Long Yongtu, is holding consultations with WTO members on the two final documents about China's accession to the 138-member WTO.
Of the 37 WTO members wishing to hold bilateral market-access negotiations with China, only Mexico and Switzerland have not yet concluded the talks. Long expressed the hope that all bilateral WTO negotiations would be concluded in the near future through concerted efforts of the concerned parties.
