US Ambassador to China on PNTR Passage
The passage of Permanent Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) by the US Senate will benefit both the United States and China, said Joseph Prueher, US Ambassador to China, in Beijing Wednesday.
The PNTR passage, he said, will hopefully ease the passage in the Geneva process for China's WTO accession, which will give the US access to the Chinese market. This, in turn, he said, will accelerate the economic reform in China as well as China's integration with the world's economic system.
Easing the annual discussion of what used to be the Most-Favored-Nation, the ambassador said, will create a climate in which China-US economic environment will be more stable. It will also lead to a more healthy and problem-solving environment where some of the other issues not necessarily solved by the PNTR passage can be discussed.
