The Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China scored a trade surplus of 1.41 billion patacas (176.25 million US dollars) in the first seven months of this year, the latest official statistics show.

The trade surplus soared 150.9 percent over that in the same period last year, according to the figures released by the Statistics and Census Services of the Macao SAR government.

In the seven months, the area's export and import volumes were 11.49 billion patacas (1.44 billion dollars) and 10.08 billion patacas (1.26 billion dollars) respectively.

Textiles and garments remained the leading export items, accounting for 82.9 percent of all exports from January to July.

On the whole, exports to the United States and the European Union took up 46.7 percent and 30.5 percent, respectively, of the total export volumes. Those to China's inland areas and the Hong Kong SAR represented 16.6 percent.

Most imports came from the Asian-Pacific region. China's inland areas and Hong Kong supplied 56.2 percent of the total while goods from the United States and the European Union accounted for 13 percent.
