China Scored Success in Trans-genetic Hybrid Cotton
A new type of trans-genetic hybrid cotton "Nankang 3" has been successfully bred in China with its yield increased by 20% as against the foreign gene cotton.
By using gene and hybrid technology, the Red Sun Group Com. together with Chinese Academy of Agriculture, Nanjing Agricultural Institute and Huazhong Agricultural University conducted trans-genetic breeding on cotton, rice, rape and green vegetables both domestic and foreign, and also with gene for resisting diseases and insects. The first batch of 2500 kg "Nankang 3" has been planted in Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Hunan and other provinces with per mu yield of ginned-cotton to override 100 kg.
Last February, the Red Sun Group invested 600 million yuan for the construction of a world class gene engineering lab, quality-control studio, automated processing center, and storehouse and five ecological breeding bases.
