WAP, Stuck in A Fix, Likely to Delay Charging

The expected charging day, September 20, is likely to be postponed due to the fact that the criteria of charging of Internet connection through WAP-enabled mobile phones have not been authorized yet, said officials from China Mobile over the weekend.

According to an online survey, over 80 per cent of the investigators can only afford a monthly charging fee of 200 yuan (US$24.15) or less, 63.5 per cent of the investigators show acceptance of 100 yuan (US$12.08) or less for the monthly Internet accession fees.

Business insiders say that the criteria for the monthly Internet accession fees through WAP-enabled mobile phones will be undoubtedly lower than that through ordinary PCs. And the charge will also be lower than the ordinary voice services.

It is likely to be a risky step to charge fees currently owing to the disadvantages WAP-enabled mobile phones have, such as narrow band connection, low connection speed, and insufficient webpages. (Source: chinadaily.com.cn)
