Courts Urged to Strengthen Ideological Work

Xiao Yang, president of China's Supreme People's Court, has urged courts of all levels to strengthen political and ideological work, so as to improve the quality of judges and combat corruption.

Xiao was speaking at a ceremony on the closing of a training course for leaders of grassroots courts from the western part of the country.

By warning that negative ideas like worshipping money, hedonism, egoism and the "special privilege" mentality would erode the court staff, the supreme court leader urged to step up supervision over judges and punish those who have violated law and disciplines.

All judges and judicial police officers must learn to conduct self-education and self-control, Xiao said. He urged grassroots organizations of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and CPC members in the courts to play an exemplary role.
