Beijing-HK Economic Cooperation Seminar to Be Held

The fourth Beijing-Hongkong Economic Cooperation Seminar will be held in Hong Kong, November 2-3, according to Shen Baochang, spokesman for the Beijing Municipal Government.

Shen said at a press conference today that the seminar will focus on economic globalization and the so-called "new economy" (Internet-based economy) and opportunities to cooperate between the two cities after China's entrance into the WTO.

Those participating in the seminar include government officials from both sides, business people and scholars, Shen said.

Also during the seminar Beijing will present some 80 major projects, with the total expected investment of more than 15 billion US dollars, to invite overseas investments.

"We will also hold a series of activities to publicize our bid for the Olympics during the event," Shen said.

The event was sponsored by the Beijing Foreign Trade and Economic Commission and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
