Former Chinese Volunteers Leave for DPRK VisitA group of veterans of the former Chinese People's Volunteers (CPV) left Dandong City, Liaoning Province, Tuesday, heading for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).A large number of local residents in the city were lining up in the streets to see off the delegation. It is the first group of former CPV veterans to visit DPRK to mark the 50th anniversary of Chinese troops' joining forces with DPRK's People's Army during the Korean War (1950-53). Among the delegates are Fan Shijin and his wife, Fan Shuping, who were both former CPV soldiers. They have brought with them a package of soil and stones which are taken from the motherland and will be brought to the tombs of CPV members who were killed in the war. CPV members have been enjoying the highest esteem in China. "Who are the Most Beloved Men?", a news report written by Chinese journalist Wei Wei, based on his interviews in DPRK in the early 1950s, is one of the most popular in the country. |
