Chinese Acrobats Gather for National Conference

China's most outstanding acrobats convened Tuesday for discussing further development of the art in the coming century.

At the opening ceremony of the Fourth National Conference of the Chinese Acrobats Association (CAA) Tuesday morning, Gao Zhanxiang, vice chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles (CFLAC), said that the CAA has made great achievements in artistic creation, academic research and cultural exchange.

While Chinese acrobats gain more and more international grand awards, the domestic acrobatic market is prospering, Gao said.

Vice Minister of Culture Pan Zhenzhou said that his ministry will create an ideal environment for acrobatics and support innovation in the field.

Xia Juhua, the CAA chairman, said that the Chinese acrobatic art, with a history of more than 3,000 years, shows unique ethnic and cultural features.

Some 170 delegates to the conference will elect a new governing body of the CAA and revise its constitution.

The CAA held the last national conference in Beijing in October 1991.
