Beijing Holds Int'l Seminar on China Agricultural Census Results

A four-day International Seminar on China Agricultural Census Results opened Tuesday in Beijing, focusing on the census process and China's rural economy based on related census statistics.

The seminar will discuss twelve topics mainly on statistics quality, census organization, improvement of the census system, rural status quo, and agriculture in China.

According to Zhu Zhixin, director of the National Bureau of Statistics, the first agricultural census in China, which was started in January 1997 and lasted for three years, provides reliable information for the government to design and implement agricultural layouts and rural development strategies.

The census got technical and financial support from the Italian government and the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

The seminar was jointly held by China, Italy and FAO. About 60 Chinese and 40 foreign representatives are attending the meeting.
